DOMA MMXI - 2011 Dallas Observer Music Awards
Written by Poor Vida Wednesday, 14 September 2011 14:26

Autumn is slowly setting upon Dallas. Although the weather cools down for a bit, the fire in the local music scene is heating up. Right now is an exciting time within the Dallas music scene. School is back in session, bringing a flood of young people into the metroplex to fill up venues. Fall holidays like Labor Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving offer DFW promoters plenty of excuses to throw bigger and better shows. The Dallas Observer kicks off the annual Dallas Observer Music Awards (DOMA's). The combination brings out the best in the Dallas local music scene, the competition is quickly approaching its peak.
The yearly announcement of the DOMA nominees always has a tendency to ruffle everyone's feathers. The comments section over on the Dallas Observer website is exploding with slighted artists and fans. Nothing less should be expected, just receiving a nomination is often enough to propel Dallas musicians to the next level in their career. City wide name recognition is not to be taken lightly.

2nd Annual Elements Of Hip Hop Festival Announced
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DALLAS, TX – Monday, June 6th 2011
Poor Vida Productions and Rec Shop officially announce the second annual Elements of Hip Hop Festival, to be held at the Green Elephant in Dallas, TX on July 3rd. The festival features over 40 hip hop artists from all over Texas and Louisiana, with over 75 acts in total performing, including dance crews, graffiti artists, bands, and DJ’s. The event includes 2 stages of performing artists, live 3D graffiti installments, clothing and merchandise vendors, and free Bar-B-Que and refreshments for all in attendance.
"This year, we are taking the Elements festival to a whole new level. Last year was amazing, with over 400 people in attendance and 50 plus acts, but this year we have really fine tuned the whole process, and we are expecting to double the number of attendees” states Poor Vida spokesperson Joel Salazar.
Joel goes on to say “The Elements of Hip Hop refers to the cultural pillars of hip hop – The DJ, The MC, The BBoy, and The Graffitti Artist. These are the four icons that together, represent hip hop culture. With the Elements of Hip Hop Festival, we are trying to provide a platform that showcases each of these elements, and helps to bring these art forms back into the limelight, together. Another way to look at the event is that we are showcasing the individuals who make up the hip hop scene in our area, the elements of our culture. Both views are right.”
The official lineup for the festival can be found online at the PoorVida.com website, as well as on Facebook and other social media websites.

The Real Easter Bunny
Written by Poor Vida Thursday, 07 April 2011 23:08
Next Friday, April 15th, we here at Poor Vida have decided to give a little something back to the community. As an extension of the 3 year strong Get Your Own Fridays, we will be sponsoring a funraising event for a very special non-profit organization: The Real Easter Bunny. If you don't know who they are, take a second to click the link and Like their page, as I'm sure they can explain what they do a little better than I can.
The Real Easter Bunny is a home based non-profit organization that has been providing easter baskets to ALL of the children (and thier siblings!) registered at Children's Medical Center every year. They have been doing this since 1983, and received their official non-profit license in 2003. What they do brings a moment of joy into an otherwise dreary hospital visit for many sick children, and we want to help.
On Friday, we are hosting a fundraising event for The Real Easter Bunny. We are featuring hip hop artists and acoustic performances, with a few surprises up our sleeves. The cover is $5, and donations are welcome. All proceeds go directly to the organisation, who will be in house partying with Poor Vida too!
Check out the event page with links to the performing artists below, and feel free to grab that link and pass it around!
